ABOUT ZHUHAI Overview of Zhuhai
Zhuhai is one of the first four special economic zones to implement the opening-up policy. In 2008, the State Council promulgated the Outline of the Reform and Development Plan for the Pearl River Delta Region (2008-2020), specifying that Zhuhai is the core city on the west bank of the Pearl River estuary.
Zhuhai is the only city in China listed in the "National Top 40 Tourist Destinations" for its overall urban landscape. In China's Urban Sustainable Development Index Report 2013, Zhuhai ranked first nationwide. It is a "City of Happiness" newly released by the country and also enjoys the title of "City of Romance".
In January 2016, it was evaluated as one of the first "National Ecological Garden Cities" by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development. According to the Research Report on Livable Cities in China released by the Chinese Academy of Sciences on June 14th, Zhuhai ranks seventh among 40 cities in China for its livability index. On September 19th, Zhuhai was awarded the title of "National Forest City".
Geographic position
Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province, at latitude 21°48′~22°27′north and longitude 113°03′~114°19′east. It is located in the southwest of the Pearl River estuary in Guangdong Province, facing Hong Kong across the sea in the east, connecting Macao in the south, and adjacent to Xinhui District of Jiangmen City and Taishan City in the west and Zhongshan City in the north.

The city's permanent population is 1,634,100, and the city's registered population is 1,124,500.
Administrative division
Zhuhai has three administrative districts including Xiangzhou District, Jinwan District and Doumen District, 15 towns and nine sub-districts under its jurisdiction. There are also five economic functional areas including Zhuhai Hengqin New District, Zhuhai Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, Zhuhai Bonded Zone, Zhuhai Gaolan Port Economic Zone and Zhuhai Wanshan Ocean Development Experimental Zone.
Tourism
Zhuhai is a city with the largest sea area, the largest island area, the longest coastline and most islands in the Pearl River Delta region. With a sea area of 6,019km2, a coastline of 691km long and 146 islands (with a total area of 236.9km2), it is known as the "City of 100 Islands".
Climate
Zhuhai has a transitional maritime climate between subtropical and tropical climate. The whole city is rich in solar energy and abundant in heat, with the annual average sunshine time of 1991.8 hours and the annual total solar radiation amount of 4,651.6 MJ/m2. Most areas in Zhuhai are free of frost all year round. It is one of the most heat-rich areas in the south subtropical region in Guangdong Province.
